What is the incense village in Hue?
Thuy Xuan is Hue’s incense village, about 7 km southwest of the city centre, where families still roll incense by hand. A visit takes an hour or two and pairs naturally with Tu Hieu Pagoda and Tu Duc Tomb nearby. With a local guide you get more than the photo: how the incense is made, and why Hue families light three sticks at every altar.

The drying yards
Bundles of dyed sticks fanned open in the sun, row after row. This is the picture everyone comes for, and in the dry months it is everywhere along the village road.
Rolled by hand
Behind the displays, families roll scented paste onto split bamboo with one flat palm, thousands of sticks a day. Sit down with them and you roll your own bundle to take home.

Questions people ask before booking
Is Thuy Xuan incense village worth visiting?
Yes, if you see it properly. The fans of coloured incense along the road are set out for photos; the craft happens in the family yards behind them, where the powder is mixed and rolled by hand. With an hour and a guide to translate, it is one of the most hands-on things to do in Hue. If you only want the photo, a taxi and fifteen minutes will do.
How far is the incense village from Hue?
About 7 km southwest of the city centre, roughly 20 minutes by car on the road towards Tu Duc Tomb. Tu Hieu Pagoda and the tomb are each only a few minutes further on.
What exactly is included in the price?
Private car with driver, a licensed local guide who speaks fluent English, hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere in central Hue, all entrance and workshop fees, and the lunch listed on the full-day tour. The only things not included are personal shopping and optional tips.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes — free cancellation up to 3 days before departure, and free rescheduling subject to availability. Within 3 days of departure, 30% of the tour price is charged because the car and guide are already committed.
Can the tour be tailored for children, older parents or our own interests?
Yes — every itinerary can be adjusted. Tell us who is travelling and what you enjoy, and we will change the stops and the pace to suit. There are no steep climbs: the incense yards are flat, and Tu Duc Tomb has only a few low flights of steps.
How do I pay, and when?
Two ways: pay the full price online by card, or pay a 30% deposit online and the rest in cash on the day of the tour, in US dollars or Vietnamese dong. We can also send a secure payment link on WhatsApp. The booking is confirmed once the online payment goes through, and your pickup time and guide’s name arrive in writing.
How far ahead should I book?
A few days is comfortable in the busy months from February to August; at quieter times next-day requests often work. Message us and we will tell you honestly what is still open.
